Why the name Cardinal Hospice of Kansas?
Choosing the name Cardinal Hospice was very intentional. In addition to being spiritual messengers and protectors, cardinals are seen as comforting and conveyors of peace. The word cardinal is derived from the Latin word cardo, which means hinge or axis. Like a hinge on a door the cardinal represents the connection between this life and the next, carrying messages back and forth. The phrase Cardinal Rule means a fundamental principle that is considered essential and non-negotiable which is how we view our mission, vision, and virtues.
The Cardinal Mission
We invested significant thought and heart into shaping our Cardinal Mission. Along the way, we explored many beautifully crafted versions—each thoughtful, eloquent, and full of meaning. But we kept returning to the core of what truly matters to us.
We didn’t want something long-winded or easily forgotten.
We wanted something simple, strong, and lasting.
So what defines our mission?
Care. Comfort. Compassion. Cardinal.
Four powerful words.
Memorable. Meaningful. Impactful.
They remind us—and everyone we serve—what we stand for.
We ask our team to bring Care, Comfort, and Compassion into every interaction.
And when they hear Cardinal, we want them to remember our Cardinal Guiding Virtues—the principles that shape every moment of our service.
